What is Earth Month?
Celebrated on April 22nd, Earth day originated in 1970 and has grown into Earth month. It now has over a billion participants around the world. Individuals, businesses, schools and governments commemorate what has been achieved and discuss what remains to be done to protect Earth.

Since its creation 49 years ago, Earth month has truly achieved great feats and has been at the forefront of governments and large organisations changing their practices in order to safeguard our environment. In 1990, Earth Day brought pressure on many governments to take part in the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.  Countries were pressured to tackle such issues as climate change, the growing scarcity of water and the loss of species.
Earth Day has been perhaps most successful at changing behaviour and attitudes, and provoking policy change. This Earth day will be no exception.
